OCC Holiday Card Workshop 2013 Day One Part Two

This go round, Online Card Classes are giving extra days after lessons to complete the cards. I was able to finish up a second card from Day One’s lesson of the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop yesterday afternoon, but it was too late to photograph it when I finished. There’s still not a light in which to photograph it, but time is of the essence! 🙂

I tried the Z-fold card shown by Jennifer McGuire, using papers from 25th and Pine for the card base, rather than stamping the background as Jennifer did (which was lovely by the way).

The card opens up to reveal the sentiment “Happy Holidays.” I heat embossed sentiments from the Hero Arts “Banners and Messages” stamp set. I already know I’ll be reaching for this set time and again. I used WOW gold embossing powder. I’d really like to try the Hero Arts gold embossing powder. I use their silver powder all the time. The tree lights were cut from Stampin’ Up gold paper with a Poppystamps die.

Pinspired Challenge #21

The winner of this challenge will receive the gift package shown below, generously offered by Pinspired Challenges DT member Lalo Ik.

I was inspired by both the motif – coffee and sweets – and the colors in the Pinterest image for my card.

I used Technique Tuesday’s “Eat Chocolate” stamp set with a combination of Versamagic inks. While designing the card, I tried incorporating the sentiment on the card front but decided to stamp it inside instead.

Now, it’s your turn. Head on over to the Pinspired Challenges blog to see the creations from the rest of the “Pin Heads” and find out the details for playing along. Three runner ups will be chosen and win a “Pin Pal” badge for their blog. The winner will win a “Pin Perfect” badge for their blog, as well as  the gift package. We can’t wait to see your creations!

OCC Holiday Card Workshop 2013 Day One

Starting off this week with the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop. What a treat for a Monday.

Today’s lesson shared ideas for decorating the insides of cards that coordinated with the outsides. I based my card on the one shared by Kristina Werner, however, I haven’t added the vellum gift card pocket to my card. The idea is that the washi tape on the outside is used to adhere the pocket on the inside.

I really liked the stamp she used on her card, a cute penguin from Darcie’s. Since I don’t have that stamp, I used a Paper Smooches snowman from Swanky Swanky Snowdudes instead. The sentiment is from the Papersmooches Warm Hearts set. There’s some Wink of Stella on the olive green scarf and some Stickles on the hat and buttons.

There’s so much material in today’s lesson – off to watch more videos. Hope you’re having a fantastic start to your week!

Tammy Tutterow Tag CASE

As I get my “sea legs” with the Tim Holtz products, I’ve been looking at the projects of Tammy Tutterow. She has a number of fabulous tutorials on her blog. Today, I’m sharing a CASE of a tag from one such tutorial.

I don’t have all of the same supplies as Tammy, so I improvised. For the sentiment label, I printed a digital label from my computer, stamped one of my favorite Hero Arts sentiments, and distressed it with Vintage Photo ink. (Even though we tend to think of fall as a time of reflection, and spring as a time of renewal, I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to think of the autumn season as a time of renewal as well!) I adhered the light-weight vintage paper to Craft-a-Board before die cutting the leaves. I combined a number of different Distress Inks to color the leaves – I’d try one ink, step back, add another depending on whether I thought the leaf needed to be more red, more green, and so forth.
