Spellbinders August 2020 Craft Happy

Hello crafty friend!  Today I am sharing cards created with new products at Spellbinders this month: the August Small Die of the Month kit, the Crafty Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil set, and the Craft Happy Stamp & Die Bundle. Let’s take a look!

With the the August Small Die of the Month set, I created a CAS Hello card featuring a mandala shape.

Spellbinders August 2020 Small Die of the Month

The Small Die of the Month set includes a variety of shapes and a full alphabet.

  • I cut the mandala shapes from cardstock to which I had applied Distress Inks.
  • I glued the pieces together on to a black cardstock background.
  • I added a vellum strip to the center, to which I applied double-sided adhesive.
  • I glued the “Hello” sentiment to the vellum.
  • I added the black panel to a 4 1/2″ square card base.

My second card showcases a sentiment from the Crafty Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil set and stamped images from the Craft Happy Stamp & Die Bundle.

  • I foiled the sentiment in Black Foil on white cardstock and cut it with a circle die.
  • I stamped the images on to cardstock which I had colored with Distress Inks and cut them with their corresponding dies.
  • I added the sentiment and craft-themed images to a card base covered with rainbow patterned paper.

Sticking with a rainbow theme, my third card uses the paint tube image in the Craft Happy Stamp & Die Bundle set with a sentiment cut with the alphabet dies in the Small Die of the Month set.

  • I colored cardstock with a variety of Distress Ink colors.
  • I stamped the cardstock with the paint tube stamp in the Craft Happy Stamp & Die Bundle set and cut with the corresponding die.
  • I cut the Hello sentiment with the alphabet dies in the Small Die of the Month set and glued the letters to the paint tubes.
  • I added the paint tubes to a card base covered with patterned paper.

Spellbinders Marvelous Mermaids by Jane Davenport

Hello! Today I am sharing two projects created with supplies from Spellbinders to showcase the Marvelous Mermaids Collection by Jane Davenport.

On the first card, I combined the Mermaid Paper Doll with the Mermaid Scale Tiles.

  • I colored Soft-Finish cardstock with a variety of Distress Oxide Inks in shades of blue and cut the pieces with the second smallest die in the tiles set.
  • I used the template provided on the Spellbinders site to lay out the tiles and adhered them to a piece of aqua paper.
  • I colored the mermaid pieces with pastel in the Birthday Suit set and Distress Oxide inks.
  • For the torso piece: I stamped the bikini top, masked it, sponged on the pastel, removed the mask, and brushed on green ink to the bikini top. Then I put the cardstock back into the stamp press (on which I had left the stamp) and restamped the bikini top.
  • I stamped the face onto cardstock colored with the pastels; I stamped the hair onto cardstock colored with Distress Ink.
  • I cut all of the pieces with their corresponding dies and attached the pieces with brads.
  • I foiled the Thank You sentiment with black foil and cut it with a circle die.
  • I added the sentiment and mermaid to the tile background (measuring 5″ wide x 6 1/4″ tall).

My second card showcases the She Sells Sea Shells stamp set.

  • I foiled the Thank You sentiment in black foil on light blue cardstock.
  • I colored Soft Finish cardstock with Distress Oxide Inks.
  • I stamped the She Sells Sea Shells images onto the colored cardstock and fussy-cut them.
  • I trimmed the sentiment panel to 4″ wide x 5 1/4″ tall and added it to an A2-sized Brush Gold card base.
  • I scattered the shells on to the card front and adhered them with dot adhesive.

Spellbinders July Clubs Blog Hop

Hello! Today, I am delighted to be participating in a blog hop along with other papercrafters sharing projects created with the Spellbinders July 2020 Club Subscriptions. You should have reached me from the blog of Joy Baldwin. (The entire list of participants is included at the end of my post.) For the hop, I created two cards showcasing the July Small Die of the Month kit from Spellbinders – “Ornamental Floral Card Creator.” I shared two other cards created with this set in this post.

To celebrate this release, Spellbinders is giving away a $50 gift certificate to three blog readers – selected from the comments on the Spellbinders blog. Hop along for additional chances to win. Giveaway closes on Sunday, July 26th, 11:59 pm EDT. The winner will be announced in the blog hop post the following Tuesday. The winner is responsible for shipping cost, duties and taxes.

My cards are similar in design; both combine the Small Die of the Month set with foiled sentiments from the Stylish Script Collection. On the first card, I foiled the Beautiful Ride sentiment and surrounded it with a frame, blossoms, foliage, and small flowers cut with the Small Die of the Month set.

Because the petals are the same color as the flower’s outline, inlaying the petals was easy. I simply added tape on the back when I first cut the shape. I glued the foliage pieces before adding leaves cut from Brush Gold.

Spellbinders July Clubs Blog HopOn my second card, I foiled a sentiment from the For You set. This time, I simplified the floral clusters (eliminating the one in the upper-left corner) and added more small flowers cut from Brush Gold.

Happy Hedgehog – Grown with Love

Hello! Today I am sharing a Copic-colored hedgehog card created with Penny Black supplies.

Happy Hedgehog - Grown with Love

  • I stamped the hedgehog (isn’t he the cutest?!) from 30-708 Plant Joy and colored the image with Copic markers.
  • I stamped and fussy-cut the same image on a sticky note to mask the image. With the mask in place, I applied Distress Oxide inks for the sky and the grass.
  • I stamped the sentiment from 30-713 Grown with Love directly on the image.
  • I cut a frame using a die in the 51-636 Dainty Dashes Stackers and cut the image to the same size. I glued the frame to the image.
  • I added the framed image to a background covered with patterned paper from the Great Escape pad.
