Paper Smooches SPARKS: Hang in There

Today, I’m sharing a card created using the sketch over on the Paper Smooches SPARKS blog.

My son is in the throes of studying for college finals, so using the vertical sketch, I created him a “Hang in There”/Encouragement card. I know that I found studying for and taking college finals to be extremely stressful!

You’re Swell

There’s something about the warmer weather and sunny skies that makes me dream about spending days on the water. Now, I don’t happen to own any watercraft, but the idea of setting sail is appealing nevertheless!

I crafted this card with Paper Smooches stamps and die cuts, as well as the Memory Box Wave stencil. I dry embossed white cardstock with the stencil, and then, with the stencil held in place, applied a combination of blue inks.

I’m linking my card up with this week’s Paper Smooches Sparks challenge – “Anything Goes.”

Paper Smooches: Welcome Spring

Today, I’m sharing a card based on a photo I recently took of the view outside. It was a beautiful day in the Pacific Northwest – the birds were chirping, the sun was out, and the trees were  in bloom (they still are although this tree’s blooms were battered down by some recent rain).

Although I’ve recently been doing a lot of watercoloring, for this card, I stamped and heat embossed patterned paper to capture the spring colors. I stamped the tree pieces and butterflies on a variety of papers until deciding on these colors and patterns.

I dry-embossed the hill, which was cut with the Border die out of Easter Grass cardstock, using the Sizzix Plaid embossing folder to introduce some texture. The Blueprints set has a stitched die with which I cut the blue paper and the green hill at the same time to give a clean finish to the edge.

Kristina Werner CASE – Lucky Leprechaun

I’m on a mission to improve my coloring of images, and lately I’ve been on a watercoloring kick. I’m absolutely in awe of the talent out there when it comes to coloring! I was delighted that Kristina Werner posted a card on her Color Wednesday segment using the cute leprechaun from Paper Smooches in time for Saint Patrick’s Day!

Kristina used Distress Ink markers to color her leprechaun. I used both markers and ink pads for the colors. She had more advanced coloring for the leprechaun’s coat and his beard, combining two colors. I stuck with just one color! I really appreciate having a project to CASE in which the colors are already decided, and I can watch a video to see how the color is applied.

CAS3: Day Two

In today’s Clean & Simple Cardmaking 3 lesson, we received more wonderful inspiration using the techniques shown yesterday. I CASEd Heather Campbell‘s card, again using the inlaid die cut technique.

DayTwo

The Thanks die is from Paper Smooches, and the hexagon die is from a Hero Arts set. I really like this technique, although I do find it to be challenging!
