Today’s Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop lesson was all about feminine and masculine cards. I crafted the cards shown by Debby Hughes with a few modifications.
The card size is 3 1/2″ x 5″ with a panel of 3″ x 4 1/2″. I’ve never crafted a card this size before, but I must say I like it a lot. I cut a Crafter’s Workshop blank template with the Savvy branch die, through which I applied the embossing paste. I tried using cardstock, as Debby did, but ended up placing the branch too high on the card. I heat embossed the branch. Key to this idea is using an embossing buddy on the cardstock before applying the paste. I used one of my new favorite Hero Arts sentiment sets heat embossed in white. The Savvy snowflake die was heat embossed with silver several times.
I took a shortcut with the feminine card by dry embossing the background rather than using paste. I also have fewer snowflakes on mine than Debby had on hers. I can only do so much bling! With two sons, I actually have an easier time crafting masculine cards than feminine ones.
Today was a fabulous class loaded with inspiration to which I’ll turn in the coming weeks!
Supplies:
That is so funny about you having more experience on the manly cards. I think both are beautiful and I love the lady version. I am big on bling. I enjoyed this class with you, you always have something nice to say. Happy Holidays and have a nice Thanksgiving.
Beautiful take on Debby’s cards! I can’t wait to try making these. so classy~
I love these techniques, especially the branch. I wish I could play along, but I had to fly home. My mother is ill. I brought a few supplies with me. Maybe I can whip something up. Beautiful cards!
Two fabulous cards. I think the best thing about card making is how you can improvise and make it your own. I love Debby’s card but unfortunately don’t have many of the products. Love Helen
Your cards are beautiful! I have never used the embossing paste (I think I am a little afraid of it) But after seeing it demonstrated several times during these classes I think I will give it a try. Thanks for all your kind words.
I was afraid to use the embossing paste, too, but honestly, it’s really easy to do!
wow totally gorgeous..love that snowflake..
Wow! Your first card is gorgeous! Turned out so beautiful! That Ranger EP must be the ticket! Gotta get some of that stuff! (Your second card didn’t load for my but I’m sure that is super pretty, too!)
WOW!!! Both of your cards are gorgeous, Jean! I can’t even pick one as a fave, as they’re both stunning! Great job with your embossing paste!!!
Gorgeous wintery greetings Jean! Lovin’ that solitary flake on the dark background!
both are fab!
Hi Jean, wonderful cards. I love the snowflakes. I especially love the embossing paste on the “Hers” card and I love all the white and the glitter! Great job!
Hi Jean — This is one of my favorite days from the class, as I feel in LOVE with Debbie’s snowflakes! I actually missed out on most of the class, (Fibro flare), so I am at the very beginning of making cards, but did watch the videos and picked up some embossing pasty at my LSS yesterday! That’s a new product to me, but I LOVED the ultra thick and textured look it gave to Deb’s snowflakes.
As always, your cards are amazing!! Oh and come to find out, Suzanne who you design with, lives in my same area and will be teaching some classes at my LSS. What a small small world. I saw the cards in the store yesterday and they are all super cute and use my favorite products!! I can’t take that first class due to a conflict, but HOPE she’ll be back to do more!!
Nice to see you and I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!!
Such beautiful cards Jean. I like both but like the dry embossing you did on the second card. Sad to see this class end but know another one will be here before we know it. Have a Safe and Wonderful Holiday Season.
