It’s Strawberry Season! – Die-cut Berry Truck

Hello! I’m back online with a “just because” card.  I’m still getting things rearranged in my new workspace. It’s strawberry season and the ones we’re getting in the PNW are fantastic. I crafted this Pacific Northwest scene with Impression Obsession dies, a My Favorite Things stencil, Memory Box dies, and a Hero Arts sentiment.

It's Strawberry Season! - Die-cut Berry Truck

As I created this card, I was using a Valentine’s Day card that my brother and I sent my grandmother sometime in the 1960s as a straight edge and a Cross pencil of my father’s to draw lines for trimming. That’s a good indication of how much crazy is in my life – that I could lay my hands on those tools faster than a ruler and pencil from this century!

The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Stamp Your Own Fruit set (now retired). The clouds are from two different sets – Memory Box Puffy Clouds and Marshmallow Clouds.

Penny Black – You Brighten My Day

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS friendship card created with Penny Black supplies. I’m in the final stages of packing up my supplies for my move, so this post is brief. What I still have around (but will be packed up in a few minutes) – Distress Oxide inks, white cardstock, and a few stamps and dies (listed at the bottom of the post).

I inked up cardstock with some of my favorite colors: yellow, teal, and a coral/orange. I cut the cardstock with two different butterfly dies, which I added to a panel on which I had stamped the sentiment. I added the butterflies with foam adhesive.

Sentiment: Special Thoughts
Butterfly with holes: Flourish and Butterflies
Other Butterfly: Flights of Fancy

Spellbinders – Tulip Flower Frame

Hello! Today, I am sharing a CAS Thank You card created with the Tulip Flower Frame Card Creator die set designed by Maria Job for Spellbinders. I previously shared cards created with the set in this post.

I specifically wanted to use patterned paper on the card base as this particular “cover plate” die has an ample amount of open space. Once I cut the frame and placed it over the patterned paper, I decided that some of the tulips in the frame should be filled in, which I did with the inlay method.

I heat-embossed a sentiment from the Everyday Script set and cut it with its coordinating die. I cut circles from both red and cream cardstock, which I adhered to the card center. I adhered the sentiment to the circles with foam adhesive.

Penny Black – Let Your Heart Soar

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS encouragement card created with Penny Black supplies – the Soar stamp set and Butterfly Circles die.

Penny Black - Let Your Heart Soar

  • I die-cut the Butterfly Circles from black cardstock.
  • I stamped the Soar sentiment on to a white cardstock panel.
  • I cut a circle, sized to the size behind the Butterfly Circles, from vellum.
  • Using the Butterfly Circles die-cut as my guide for placement, I sponged Distress Oxide ink through the circle stencil four times.
  • I adhered the die-cut over the sponged ink circles.
  • I adhered the panel to a card base in a pale blue (Bazzill Icy Mint).

Spellbinders – Artomology Collection by Jane Davenport

Hello! Today I am delighted to be sharing two cards featuring die sets from Spellbinders Artomology Collection by Jane Davenport – Marcia’s Makeover and Tousled. The Artomology Collection by Jane Davenport brings her iconic faces, fantasy creatures and quirky quotes to life! Keeping to my style, I used the die sets to create CAS mixed media cards. Let’s take a look.

My first card, measuring 5″ x 7″, features the Marcia’s Makeover die set and the Birthday Suit Pallette Pastel set, a palette of 18 colors housed in a custom case.

  • To create the card, I cut the detailed die and the collar from white cardstock to use as stencils.
  • I secured the stencils to white cardstock and applied the colors for Marcia’s hair, skin, and blouse to the white cardstock using the pastels in the set. I wanted to get the approximate location for the various colors.
  • I removed the stencil and filled in areas of the same color with sponge daubers knowing that I would cut the detailed piece as an overlay.
  • I cut the detailed piece from black cardstock and heat-embossed the sentiment – “Elegance is the only beauty that never fades.” I trimmed the panel to 5″ x 7″.
  • I sprayed adhesive on the back of the black piece and adhered it to the white cardstock on which I had applied the pastels.
  • I cut the sunglasses from cardstock colored with the pastels and added “glass” cut from an acrylic sheet to the frames.
  • I added the panel to a 5″ x 7″ card base. For embellishment, I cut flowers and foliage with dies in the same set from white cardstock colored with pastels in the pallette.

My second card, A-2-sized, features the Tousled die set combined with a digitally-created background and  sentiment. On this card, I used the inlaid technique.

  • I digitally created and printed the background and “Chasing Dreams” sentiment on white cardstock.
  • I cut black cardstock with the Tousled die to work as the frame.
  • I cut cardstock colored with pink ink for the hair with the Tousled die and added the pieces to the frame, securing the pieces with tape on the back.
  • I cut cardstock colored with the a skin tone in the Pallette Pastel set for the face and added the pieces to the frame, securing with tape on the back.
  • I cut cardstock colored with teal ink for the eyes and added the pieces to the frame. There were several places in the eyes where I inlaid white cardstock as well.
  • I added the assembled face to the card base with foam adhesive.
