Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class Challenge

As I mentioned in this post, I’m participating in the pre-class color challenge for the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2. The camp starts July 7 and runs for three weeks.

The pre-class color challenge palette consists of peachy pink, light blue, light gray, dark gray and white. With this card, I went a completely differently direction from the previous one.

Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class ChallengeTo make it easier to adhere the die cut chevrons, I put Be Creative (Sookwang) tape onto the back of the cardstock strips before die cutting. I then used tweezers to peel the chevrons and place them onto the card.

Blooming Garden – Poppies

I’m participating in the pre-class color challenge for the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2, which starts on July 7. I can’t wait for class to start!

The challenge’s color combo of peachy pink, light blue, light gray, dark gray and white was difficult for me, as I usually create in stronger, brighter colors. But that’s what I like about these challenges – they force you to consider combinations you’ve never tried. You’re allowed to craft a card with just four of the colors, so I eliminated the light blue.

I’ve got several more ideas, both on paper and in my head, for the Penny Black Blooming Garden stamp set, which includes five different flowers. I really like the poppies white embossed on the peach cardstock.

Remember when I mentioned in this post that I wanted to create a similar card using an anchor charm and white cord? Well, that’s what I did on this card using the Penny Black Roman Surround background stamp paired with a sentiment from the Friendship set and a die cut anchor.

This card is somewhat unusually sized – it’s 4 1/2 inches wide by 5 1/4″ tall. I’m still practicing my nautical knots and would like to learn some fancier ones for card making. Nylon rope has a tendency to unravel and it loosens easily, so for this card I simply tied a knot! I stapled the cord at the two sides with a Tim Holtz mini attacher.

A Bear of All Trades

I couldn’t wait to play with the Penny Black A Bear of All Trades stamp set full of such cute images. It’s a terrific set for Father’s Day cards, and I made a Father’s Day card for my husband, who happens to be a software programmer.

I colored the bear with Primacolor colored pencils over a Copic base at the recommendation of Elizabeth Allan. I first colored the bear without the Copic underlayer, and the Copics give the image a decidedly more finished look. I also used a Prismacolor blending pencil, which is like magic!

Sweet as Honey

Today I’m sharing a card stamped with the Penny Black Sweet as Honey set paired with the Letter Background for a subtle background.

I stamped and embossed the rose twice and was able to punch it into three distinct sections. I love the combination of pink and green, and the silver embossing adds a bit of elegance.
