Penny Black: Inlaid Snowflake Die Cuts

Today, I’m sharing a holiday-themed card crafted with newly released Penny Black dies and stamps using a non-traditional Color Combo, which was shared last year on the Penny Black blog. The card design is from Scrapbook & Cards Today CardMaps Today Volume 4. I recently ordered the magazine, and I’ve earmarked quite a few sketches.

InlaySnowflakesI stamped a light blue cardstock panel with the 40-350 Tree-Lined background stamp in a coordinating ink. I die cut the 51-066 Crystal Trio snowflakes nested within circle dies so that I could inlay the snowflakes. I also cut circles in white to put behind the inlaid snowflakes/circles. The sentiment is from the 30-257 Joy Filled set.

Happy Fall: Die Cut Truck and Leaves

This morning during my walk, I saw a lovely leaf dance. Soon there will be piles of leaves in our yard. I’m sharing a card depicting a fall scene in the Pacific Northwest. When the leaves have fallen from the deciduous trees, we still have our evergreen backdrop.

The new Impression Obsession fall release has some terrific dies. I took some artistic liberties by pairing the die cut leaves with the truck! Those are some huge leaves! To add the leaves, I die cut a circle, which I trimmed just below the center line. I added a base layer of leaves to which I then kept adding leaves, attaching them with the Zig Memory Two-Way Fine Tip Pen.

Halloween Wishes

I have a new post over in the CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson’s on Die Cutting Techniques. One of the die cutting techniques I explore is window die cuts. I took the Spooky Window card shown in the post one step further placing the window, embossed with a Hero Arts sentiment, on a Distress-inked background panel.

The Cutting Edge Challenge #10

It’s time for the another Cutting Edge Challenge! Our inspiration this week is one of my cards.

TCEC_10I created the card last year celebrating the end of summer/beginning of fall. That’s Ginger taking center stage in a hay field on Whidbey Island.

I decided to focus on the crows/blackbirds/ravens that seem to be prevalent at this time of year – on fences, on telephone wires, wherever they can rest (or survey their territory!).

Challenge10JM

I used a combination of Distress Inks to create the background panel to which I attached the bird die cuts from Spellbinders Birds On A Wire. I used a sentiment stamped with a Neat and Tangled set to finish it off.

We’d love to have you play along! Head on over to The Cutting Edge Challenge blog where you’ll find inspiration from other members of the team, the rules and regulations, and the InLinkz tool for you to link up your project!
