Poppystamps Merry Little Christmas

How’s your December going? Have you bought your Christmas tree? I’m sharing a card created with Poppystamps dies and stamp set which was inspired by the cut-your-own tree farms and the Christmas tree lots that many of us visit at this time of year.

Poppystamps Merry Little Christmas

The tree decorated with sparkling lights is the card’s focal point, which I placed against a snowy treeline. I added a smaller pine tree next to the decorated tree for some balance. I used a patterned paper background to provide additional color and to echo the color of the tree lights and heat-embossed sentiment.

Another Day 4 Tag from 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist

Today, I’m sharing another tag as part of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist series in the CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson’s. This is a “Take 2” of Day Four’s tag by Kittie Caracciolo combined with the deer card by Julie Ebersole in this post.

I really like the red, gray and white together. At first I tried making this same tag with gray, but decided to throw in the red deer to mix it up! I also cut the snowbanks in the woodgrain cardstock, as well as the trees, to provide more texture.

Today, I’m sharing another tag as part of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist series in the CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson’s. My tag is inspired by Kittie Caracciolo’s. Her work with die cuts is amazing. She’s now a regular contributor in the CLASSroom.

For my tag, I tried to replicate some of the texture and depth of Kittie’s tag. She had more elements on her tag that really added to its overall depth.

I used embossing paste on a stencil to replicate snow, and I cut the birch trees from woodgrain for some texture. Kittie uses a crimper to add texture to her snowbanks; I’ve got a crimper on my list of “tools to buy” as I can totally see its value! When I laid the die cut sled on the tag, it seemed a little blah, so I stamped the die cut with the Versamark, shook on the sticky embossing powder, heated the powder and sprinkled with the Stickles Dry Glitter for a little sparkle.

Penny Black Christmas Joy

Today, I’m sharing a holiday card created with Penny Black die cuts and a Penny Black background stamp. I had in mind the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” tree lighting while making this card. Tonight, the tree will be lit for the first time this holiday season!

Penny Black Christmas Joy

I paired the Penny Black Xmas Tree [51-012] die cut, cut in silver and green cardstock and pieced together, with the “Joy” sentiment from the Love & Joy [51-021] die cut set. I cut the “Joy” sentiment twice, once in silver and once in the red cardstock. I adhered the two together in order to give the sentiment some depth so that it would lay on top of the tree die cut. I positioned it so that the swoop of the “J’ intersected with the curved line encircling the tree. I stamped the card base with the Circle & Lines [40-084] background stamp and heat embossed it with silver powder. As I explained in an earlier post, showing a card made with the Xmas Tree die cut, I really like adding metallic accents to my cards at this time of year!

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist – Day 2

Have you been following the amazing tags shared in the CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson’s? It’s all part of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist series.

I’m sharing a tag inspired by Julie Ebersole’s. Her video was an absolute delight to watch – she’s funny and provides great explanations of her steps.

I made some modifications to use what I had on hand. And I learned a lot in making the tag. I made more than one mistake, but I learn the most when I make mistakes. The patterned paper is from last year’s (year before last’s?) My Mind’s Eye holiday release. One of the things I learned is that the Tim Holtz tag die is longer than a 6″ x 6″ pad, so I used 12″ x 12″ scrapbooking paper, which put some limitation into my choices.  The sky is dry embossed with one of my favorite Sizzix embossing folders.

Happy December!
