Nautical Greetings

Yes, I’m sharing another nautical-themed card! Absolutely, hands down, it’s my favorite summer theme. I’m already making lists of Halloween and Christmas projects (and products to buy!), but since it’s still July, I want to celebrate the “now” just a little bit before moving into the fall- and winter-themed projects!

Jean Manis Nautical Greetings

I used the smaller of the two boat dies in the Poppystamps Marina Sailboat set, cutting the boat from kraft and red cardstock. I trimmed off the lower portion of the red one so that the boat would be wood-colored and the sail red. I have a couple of anchor dies, the one in the WPlus9 Design Studio Dies, Nautical Notions set being the smallest (which worked best with the boat).

The Stampin’ Up sentiment is one that I’ve used several times before. I keep looking for more nautical sentiments but haven’t seen anything that’s caught my eye.

Supplies:

Stampin’ Up sentiment; Poppystamps Marina Sailboat die; Lifestyle Crafts Tide embossing folder

A lot of my paper crafting focuses on holidays and events, such as Halloween and Christmas or birthdays and weddings (as I’m sure yours does as well). You know the adage “write what you know”?  Between holidays and events, I like to create cards in the season I’m experiencing that relate to my world.

This card, created with a variety of die cuts, is inspired by our Golden Retriever Ginger’s love of the beach. Ginger died two years ago (and we still miss her every day!).

Jean Manis Beach Dog

During the last year of her life (in which she battled cancer) we took her to the beach as much as possible, as it was truly one of her favorite places to be.

Penny Black Simplicity: You Brighten My Day

Today, I’m sharing a CAS floral card created with Penny Black stamps and dies.

PB Simplicity

Taking my color cue from the sentiment, (included in the 30-338 Special Thoughts set), I stamped the Penny Black 40-460 Sunbursts with several bright colors of dye ink on 110# Neenah white cardstock, staggering the image for visual interest. (I tried pigment ink as well, but preferred the saturated and bold look I got with the dye ink.) I embellished the card with butterflies cut with one of the dies in the 51-132 Flights of Fancy set.

To the Beach – TE Share Joy Challenge #43

I’m playing along with Taylored Expressions Share Joy Challenge #43.

TE Share Joy Challenge #43

I used the sketch (rotated ninety degrees counter-clockwise) to create a beach-themed card.

TE Share Joy Challenge #43

I put a die-cut circle representing the sun in the spot on the sketch where there’s a large circle and used the swim suit pieces in the spots with the smaller circles. (I took a lot of artistic license with the sketch!)

For this card, I colored watercolor cardstock with Distress Inks before cutting it with the various dies (from the On the Line Beach Cutting Plate set) to create a different look. Instead of centering the palms on the scene, I offset them so that the palm on the right is more prominent. The Sunshine word die was a complimentary die provided in one of my Taylored Expressions orders.

I’m sharing two CAS cards I created using one of the sale items – Pockets & Pages – Fab Frames – Summer.

For my first card, I used one of the frames (there are three in the set) cut inside one of the Stitched Rectangle Stacklets dies to create an overlay.

TE Farewell Favorites

The outside edge of the Pockets & Pages – Fab Frames – Summer does not cut, so it can be placed inside a larger die. The palm was cut with the On the Line Beach Cutting Plate set and adhered directly to the cardstock background. The frame was added with foam adhesive. I couldn’t resist embellishing with the Little Bits – Flip Flops.

TE Farewell Favorites

For my second card, I used a different frame in the Pockets & Pages – Fab Frames – Summer set with a die in the Stitched Square Stacklets set to create a CAS masculine card for the car lover in your family.

TE Farewell Favorites

I added the frame directly to a card panel, which was dry-embossed with the Chevron embossing folder. I adhered the vehicles, cut with the Transportation set, to the frame background with foam adhesive. This card came together very quickly!
