Spellbinders January 2019 Small Die of the Month

Hello! Wow, it is hard to believe that it is 2019! Happy New Year! Today, I am delighted to be sharing two friendship/Valentine-themed projects created with the January Small Die of the Month “First Crush” from Spellbinders. This die set is just precious! Let’s take a look!

Spellbinders January 2019 Small Die of the Month

On my first card, I created a boy and a girl with the dies in the January Small Die of the Month set.

I added the assembled children to a card base on to which I had adhered a heart cut with one of the Nestabilities Heart Dies from the Follow Your Heart paper. (I used the same patterned paper for the boy’s shirt and the girl’s dress.) The children are popped up with foam adhesive. I added the balloon after I had the children attached.

On the second card, I created a girl in the same manner as on my first card. To fill out the space, I cut three balloons, over which I added the LOVE letters, cut with a die in the Miss You Swirl set.

Both cards are 5″ x 7″. I wanted to give plenty of room for the assembled children.

CAS Valentine’s Day Die-Cut Birds

Hello! Today, I am sharing a CAS Valentine’s Day card created with a combination of die cuts. I have officially moved on from Christmas crafting.

CAS Valentine's Day Die-Cut Birds

The card spotlights the Elizabeth Craft Designs Birds die set; I dressed the birds for cold weather (one of the things I like about crafting Valentine’s Day cards is an opportunity to extend winter-themed supplies). I used Simon Says Stamps dies for the heart background and the sentiment and framed the scene with a now-retired My Favorite Things die. The base is dry-embossed with a We R Memory Keepers embossing folder.

Happy New Year!

Spellbinders – Great, Big, Wonderful World by Sharyn Sowell

Hello! Ready for some happy cardmaking inspiration? Spellbinders has recently introduced the Great, Big, Wonderful World Collection by Sharyn Sowell. This collection is all about friendship and connection. The products  could be used to create cards and project for a variety of occasions including (but not limited to) Valentine’s Day.

I created four cards of similar design with the collection. My cards use the Peaceful Garden and Love & Flowers die sets, as well as sentiments from the Fun Stampers Journey Chosen Family stamp set, cut with the corresponding die set.

  • I die cut the silhouette images from both white and black cardstock. In all cases, I cut two silhouettes and adhered them together to add depth.
  • I combined patterned papers in spring colors for the card backgrounds. (Without thinking about it, I ended up pairing pink with blue and yellow with blue.) I stitched the patterned paper to the card bases. On the Love & Flower card, I added ribbon since more of the transition between the two patterned papers was visible, given the narrower silhouette.
  • I white heat-embossed the Chosen Family stamp set sentiments on black cardstock and stamped the sentiments in black ink on white cardstock. I cut the sentiments with their corresponding dies.
  • I adhered the silhouette images to the card bases and popped up the sentiments with foam adhesive.

I stamped and colored the birds and envelope from Love Letters, and cut the items with their corresponding dies. I stamped the sentiment on to the white cardstock base and added panels cut from Lawn Fawn cardstock with the Woodgrain Backdrop die. I added hearts cut with the Taylored Expressions Little Bits – Hearts die.
