The Owl and the Pussycat
This week’s Lawnscaping Challenge is to try a new technique.
I started a list of techniques I hadn’t tried and realized I’d never cut multiple die cut layers. My card’s inspiration is the “nonsense” poem “The Owl and the Pussycat” by Edward Lear.
I cut the waves individually and glued them to the stamped black background. I then ran the panel through my Big Shot cutting out the scene with a large circle die. I finished the panel off with a thin die-cut circle. I made the boat using origami technique.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon. And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand. They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, the moon, They danced by the light of the moon.

Scrapping My Favorites
Simple Scrapper has a fun challenge planned for December – to scrap about one’s favorites and to include a picture of oneself on the layout. I’m working on some assignments ahead of time so that the holiday season is a tad less hectic. I’m looking forward to embracing the activities of the season with energy and enthusiasm.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting my youngest son in Boulder, where he is a sophomore at the University of Colorado. It was easy for me to come up with favorites from Boulder! And Paul insisted that he take a photo of me in front of the Flatirons, enshrouded in clouds. This layout is not in my usual clean and simple style – I wanted to create an outdoorsy, but still cozy/comfy, layout evoking the textures and colors of the fall season.

Welcome Autumn – Retrosketches #32
I just can’t get enough of the Paper Smooches “Autumn Groves” set and decided to use it for this week’s fabulous Retro Sketches challenge. I can see myself using this sketch over and over.
I began by choosing the patterned paper strips using papers from Simple Stories and My Mind’s Eye. The MME paper is some I’ve had for awhile from a collection that I really like. I’ll be sad when it gets all used up! I colored my scarecrow and pumpkin based on the colors in the papers with Copic markers. The sentiment, crow, and fence are stamped onto the background. Lining that crow up, and knowing I had just one “take” was no small feat (read previous post on battling perfectionism!). Although the sketch calls for a square card, once I’d built my scene, a rectangular format made more sense. I kept the background quiet with a neutral cardstock.

So Thankful
This is a card I made “just because”! I returned yesterday from a three-day visit to see my youngest son, who attends the University of Colorado in Boulder. I wanted to get back into my daily routine that includes cardmaking and a certain number of household responsibilities! I colored the pumpkins and mouse, and then found that there was just no way I’d be able to fussy-cut the mouse’s tail. I glued the pumpkins and a tail-less mouse to the blue background and then inked up just the tail with a black Memento marker. I gingerly stamped the tail onto the colored pumpkin. As a “recovering perfectionist” it was a huge step forward to be able to even try this. 😉
