OCC Holiday Card Workshop 2013 Day One

Starting off this week with the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop. What a treat for a Monday.

Today’s lesson shared ideas for decorating the insides of cards that coordinated with the outsides. I based my card on the one shared by Kristina Werner, however, I haven’t added the vellum gift card pocket to my card. The idea is that the washi tape on the outside is used to adhere the pocket on the inside.

I really liked the stamp she used on her card, a cute penguin from Darcie’s. Since I don’t have that stamp, I used a Paper Smooches snowman from Swanky Swanky Snowdudes instead. The sentiment is from the Papersmooches Warm Hearts set. There’s some Wink of Stella on the olive green scarf and some Stickles on the hat and buttons.

There’s so much material in today’s lesson – off to watch more videos. Hope you’re having a fantastic start to your week!

Tammy Tutterow Tag CASE

As I get my “sea legs” with the Tim Holtz products, I’ve been looking at the projects of Tammy Tutterow. She has a number of fabulous tutorials on her blog. Today, I’m sharing a CASE of a tag from one such tutorial.

I don’t have all of the same supplies as Tammy, so I improvised. For the sentiment label, I printed a digital label from my computer, stamped one of my favorite Hero Arts sentiments, and distressed it with Vintage Photo ink. (Even though we tend to think of fall as a time of reflection, and spring as a time of renewal, I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to think of the autumn season as a time of renewal as well!) I adhered the light-weight vintage paper to Craft-a-Board before die cutting the leaves. I combined a number of different Distress Inks to color the leaves – I’d try one ink, step back, add another depending on whether I thought the leaf needed to be more red, more green, and so forth.

Twas the Night before Christmas

With the door shut on October, I’m making holiday cards! I wanted to create a card in one sitting, so I turned to some of my favorite winter-themed die cuts.

I had this finished with a plain background and sent a photo to my eldest son. He responded with “Shouldn’t there be some snow?” That was valid input, so I dry-embossed the card base with an embossing folder to give some texture and the allusion of snow.

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!

Northwest Landscape

Living in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by evergreen and mountains, I’m afforded some gorgeous views. I wanted to create a scene illustrating the landscape, specifically of those times when there’s snow at the top of the hills that’s not yet reached the lower elevations.

I cut three panels with the Fremont Pine die in three colors to depict the different elevations. I then played around with the pieces, adjusting them horizontally, until I had a staggered landscape. I masked the bird from the sentiment stamp, which I heat embossed on the bottom panel.
