His & Hers: Day Two

In today’s Online Card Classes course “His & Hers” course, I created two cards based on ones shown by Jennifer McGuire. Like hers, mine use the Paper Smooches “Leafy Greens” stamp set.

For my “Hers” card, I used a variety of Distress and Hero Arts Shadow inks. The sentiment is from a Simon Says Stamp set. (I actually made this card second and backed the vellum strip on Be Creative tape so it would lie flat, after realizing that just tucking in the ends wasn’t working.)

The “His” card is stamped on kraft cardstock also with a variety of Distress and Hero Arts Shadow inks.

His & Hers: Day One

Today is the first day of the latest Online Card Classes course “His & Hers.” I created two cards, which technically qualify as “hers.” That being said, I feel that the second one is more masculine (probably because there’s no pink in it) than the first. 🙂

I loosely followed the cards shown by Kristina Werner in class today. For the first card, I colored the flower stamp with distress inks and a water brush. The texture of the watercolor paper gives this card a distinct look.

For the second card I colored the flowers with Copics. I have more Copic experience than watercolor experience, so I was more comfortable coloring this card. I felt I had more control with the coloring than I did with the watercolors.

Something I particularly liked with Kristina’s cards, which I did on my cards as well, was to cut the panel at 3 3/4″ x 5″ giving a 1/4″ border on the card base.

Supplies: Hero Arts “Antique Flowers and Butterflies”; Hero Arts “Good Friends”; Copics: YR31, YR15, YR18, YG13, YG17, Y19; Distress Markers “Barn Door”, “Spiced Marmalade”, “Peeled Paint”

Think Pink: Part Two

Even before I finished blogging about my pink card, I knew I wanted to give the basic idea another try and I had leftover pieces to play with. There was something about the sentiment size that just didn’t sit right with me. I turned to a different “Hero Arts” sentiment that I feel better suits the card in both style and size.

Think Pink

The Online Card Classes course “His & Hers” starts tomorrow – time to clean up my workspace so that I’m ready!

Supplies: Stampin’ Up cardstock + ink; WOW gold embossing powder

Think Pink: A Note to You

I’ve had this card in my head for a week or so, ever since I purchased the Hero Arts “Flower Dot Pattern” background stamp. The stamp has been around for awhile (a couple of years?), and I’ve seen it used on some beautiful projects.

Think Pink

I paired the paisley/floral motif with something geometric in the lower half. I’ve rarely, if ever, used the “Plaid” embossing folder. I dyed the silk ribbon with “Worn Lipstick” distress stain.

Furry Cat CASE

I absolutely fell in love with the Simon Says “Furry Cat and Box” stamp set when I saw it used on a card by Laura Bassen. I’d already used the set on a different “Happy Birthday” card but wanted to give Laura’s card a try, so I CASE-ed it, twice!

Laura used a solid cardstock with Copic-colored cats. As I’m in the process of using up some of my patterned paper, (I have a lot!), I paper pieced the cats from patterned paper and used a patterned paper background. Laura’s card was cleverly created, something I grew to appreciate as I made mine.
