Santa’s On His Way – Penny Black Christmas Scenes

Hello! Today I’m sharing two takes on the same design. I’ve used the Penny Black #51-560 Here Comes… and #51-459 Neighborhood Border dies to create Christmas scenes.

Santa's On His Way - Penny Black Christmas Scenes

On my first take, I created a card base from patterned paper. The #51-459 Neighborhood Border was cut from white cardstock and backed with a soft yellow. I cut Santa and his sleigh from red cardstock. I added a heat-embossed sentiment from the #30-384 Rejoice stamp set.

On my second take, I used non-traditional colors. You may also notice that the Neighborhood Border is shifted a bit.

The card base is dry-embossed turquoise blue. The #51-459 Neighborhood Border was cut from dark pink cardstock and backed with a bright yellow. I cut Santa and his sleigh from white cardstock. I heat-embossed a sentiment from the #30-616 Thrill of Hope stamp set directly on to the Neighborhood Border (this method is a bit trickier than adding a banner, as I did in the first card).

On both cards, I added snowflakes cut with dies in the #51-268 A Blizzard and #51-080 Around Town sets.

I don’t always have the time to try out different color schemes, although it’s something I always take into consideration (as in, I’m thinking about other options). One of my favorite card types is a scene, so these cards were a lot of fun to make.

Tangle-Free Holiday – Spellbinders Die-cut Card

Hello! Today I have a whimsical holiday card on which I’ve combined several Spellbinders Die D-Lites sets – Holiday Twinkle Lights and Christmas Bandit.

Tangle-Free Holiday - Spellbinders Die-cut Card

  • I die-cut the Christmas Bandit and the Holiday Twinkle Lights (cut twice) and assembled the pieces.
  • I cut a rectangle from patterned paper. I cut a circle and then trimmed it on the side and bottom to fit the design. Without the circle, the raccoon got lost on the patterned paper and strings of lights.
  • I heat-embossed the String of Lights sentiment.
  • I put everything together on the patterned paper background and added the assembly to a card base.

Winter Coffee Date

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS coffee-themed card featuring My Favorite Things supplies.

I die-cut the Mini CafĂ© All Day pieces from black shiny cardstock (bought from Stampin’ Up last year), white cardstock, and patterned paper and assembled the cups.

Winter Coffee Date

I cut the Polaroid Shaker Frame from white cardstock and heat-embossed the Cup of Love sentiment on to the frame after I cut it out. (I did this on a stamp press.) I added patterned paper to the back of the frame and added the assembled coffee cups. I adhered the assembly to the patterned paper background.

While my choices made this a winter card, different patterned papers would change the look entirely!

Penny Black Winter Church

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS Christmas card featuring the Penny Black #51-569 Winter Church die, which is part of the Merry and Joy release.

I cut the pieces for the church and backed the windows with a soft yellow. I heat-embossed the sentiment from the #30-257 Joy Filled stamp set on to the red cardstock card base.

To fill out the scene, I added snowflakes cut with dies from the #51-268 A Blizzard and #51-080 Around Town die sets.

What I like about this card/why I designed this card the way that I did: I like the choice of red for the background, even though it’s not realistic; I like the small touch of green that the wreath on the church adds; I like the heat-embossed sentiment on the card base as it contributes to the CAS feel of the card.

Thanks for dropping by! I appreciate your warm and thoughtful comments!
