Penny Black Flutters Meets Dots

Today, I’m sharing a card crafted with two of the new Penny Black’s Creative Dies –  Flutters (51-006) and Dots (51-009) – that I combined for a summer birthday card.

Penny Black Flutters Meets Dots

To begin, I cut a piece of masking paper with the Dots die two times, side-by-side. I rotated the die 180 degrees before cutting with it a second time. I put the mask on white cardstock and used a combination of Distress Inks to color the cardstock. I then cut the dragonflies from the inked cardstock. The circle cutout on the white panel reveals a piece of lighter blue cardstock cut with the Dots die placed over the darker blue card base. To complete the card, I stamped one of the sentiments from the Friendship (30-160) set with Versafine ink.

SCC2: Week One, Day Four

Wow this week has flown by! It’s already Day Four of the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2 class. My card is based on one shared by Marion Vagg.

I guess I like using pastel colors more than I realized! To simplify this card, I used patterned papers from the Studio Calico Sundrifter paper pack. The die cuts are Lorelai Leaf from poppystamps and Moonlight Butterfly from Memory Box. The sentiment is from Mama Elephant Water Blooms.

SSC2: Week One, Day Three

Fabulous cards in the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2 class today from the guest designers. I modeled my card on the one shared by Laura Bassen with a few changes.

Although I normally shy away from pastels, the Atlantic paper from Studio Calico has some great patterns that reinforced my nautical theme and still kept to this week’s color palette. Laura stitched her banners on the left side. I adhered mine to a rectangular panel on the left, which is shorter in width than the banners, allowing the banners on the right to “flutter.” Without the stitching, the left side needed a little “something,” so I added the twine.

Supplies: Memory Box anchor die; Simon Says woodgrain cardstock; MFT fishtail die; Studio Calico and October Afternoon patterned papers; twine; Simon Says “you” die cut and stamp; Versamark; Hero Arts embossing powder

Mimi at Play

This past weekend, I took time off from cardmaking to watercolor some of the images from the Penny Black Mimi at Play set with Distress ink pads and markers. I find that I need to color the images several times before I’m happy with my results!

I paired Mimi with a sentiment from the Friendship set and a die-cut window. To cut out that area between her toy horse and the rocker, I cut off the rocker, cut out the paper, and then reattached the rocker with dimensional tape. 🙂

Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class Challenge

As I mentioned in this post, I’m participating in the pre-class color challenge for the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2. The camp starts July 7 and runs for three weeks.

The pre-class color challenge palette consists of peachy pink, light blue, light gray, dark gray and white. With this card, I went a completely differently direction from the previous one.

Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class ChallengeTo make it easier to adhere the die cut chevrons, I put Be Creative (Sookwang) tape onto the back of the cardstock strips before die cutting. I then used tweezers to peel the chevrons and place them onto the card.
