Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class Challenge

As I mentioned in this post, I’m participating in the pre-class color challenge for the Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2. The camp starts July 7 and runs for three weeks.

The pre-class color challenge palette consists of peachy pink, light blue, light gray, dark gray and white. With this card, I went a completely differently direction from the previous one.

Summer Card Camp 2: Pre-Class ChallengeTo make it easier to adhere the die cut chevrons, I put Be Creative (Sookwang) tape onto the back of the cardstock strips before die cutting. I then used tweezers to peel the chevrons and place them onto the card.

Remember when I mentioned in this post that I wanted to create a similar card using an anchor charm and white cord? Well, that’s what I did on this card using the Penny Black Roman Surround background stamp paired with a sentiment from the Friendship set and a die cut anchor.

This card is somewhat unusually sized – it’s 4 1/2 inches wide by 5 1/4″ tall. I’m still practicing my nautical knots and would like to learn some fancier ones for card making. Nylon rope has a tendency to unravel and it loosens easily, so for this card I simply tied a knot! I stapled the cord at the two sides with a Tim Holtz mini attacher.

For my card, I drew from the texture of the cake, the colors of green/tan/white, and the themes of spring and love. It’s rare for me to make a card without a lot of stamping, however, I did stamp the hearts using the woodgrain circle in the “My Happy” stamp set before die-cutting them.

I was inspired by the image’s theme and design. I used two different cloud dies to achieve the cloud cover. I die cut vellum adhered to Be Creative tape so that I could easily adhere the clouds. Rather than use rain drops on my card, I die cut three colorful umbrellas.

Pattern Play: Day 1 Revisited

Today I’m sharing another card from the Online Card Class Pattern Play class. This card is inspired by one of Jennifer McGuire’s from the Day 1 lesson.

My favorite aspect of the lesson was Jennifer’s explanation on how to choose coordinating patterns. Jennifer’s card combined a floral with three tone-on-tone patterns. As I recall her papers were from several different companies. Since I’m still taking “baby steps” with patterned paper, I combined papers from the Basic Grey “Paper Cottage” pad choosing just one paper with a multitude of colors (the second heart from the top). This technique makes paper paper combining so much easier! The hearts are popped up with dimensional adhesive to give some depth.
