Simon Says Stamp Friendly Frolic Blog Hop

Hello! Today, I’m delighted to be sharing three projects as part of a Simon Says Stamp blog hop showcasing products from the FRIENDLY FROLIC release.

My first project showcases the Folk Dance die, with which I used the inlay technique (one of my favorites).

  • To create a frame for the pieces, I die-cut the Folk Dance panel several times from black cardstock and adhered the layers together. I backed the panel with white cardstock.
  • I used the Folk Dance die to cut the leaves and petals from colored cardstock and adhered the pieces into the frame.
  • I adhered the assembly to a card base.
  • I stamped the Big Thanks sentiment on a white cardstock strip with black ink.
  • I die-cut the Big Happy sentiment and applied it to the strip.
  • I adhered the strip to the card.

My second card features the Diamond Pattern die.

  • I inked a cardstock panel (masking as I went along) with Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Twisted Citron, and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and cut it with the Diamond Pattern die.
  • I adhered the panel over a similarly colored piece so that the diamond pattern revealed a second layer of color.
  • I added a sentiment cut with the You Da Best die.

My final project combines an image from the Plantiful Puns stamp set with the Diamond Pattern stamp.

  • I stamped the Plantiful Puns image and colored it with Copic markers.
  • I stamped the card front panel with the Diamond Pattern stamp using Versamark ink.
  • I cut a circle in the panel and adhered the plant image from behind.
  • I heat-embossed the Plantiful Puns sentiment on a strip, which I adhered just under the plant image.
  • I adhered the panel to a dry-embossed card base.

  25. Totally sweet cards Jean but I have to say I L♥VE the first card with the inlay. So beautiful.

  26. I love all of your cards, especially the Folk Dance inlay card! I wonder, would it be faster to cut it in white and color all the pieces than to cut in multiple pieces of cardstock? If you aren’t going for shading the coloring should go quick? Can you tell I haven’t done an inlay card before? 🙂 But I want to try after seeing so many cool examples with this die!!!

    1. Hi Karen,
One of the things that I do when I do an inlay card is leave the pieces in the frame. That way I can keep track of what goes where. While the idea of coloring them would work, it would take me much longer to go that route as I’d have to remove the pieces from the die, color the pieces, and then place the pieces in to the frame.

  27. Your inlaid card is just stunning! Your other cards are terrific too–how awesome is this release!

  28. Each of your designs is beautiful, but I think I like the first one the best. The vibrancy of the inlaid pattern pieces really grabs my focus and is so pretty!!! But I like I said, all of them are fantastic!!! (By the way, I really like how easily you described the process of how to make the cards. Very easy to follow along which I greatly appreciate. Thanks!!!)
