Masculine CAS Hello – Color Blocked Die-Cut Horse

Hello! Today I am sharing a masculine, Western-themed, CAS “Hello” card. This card is headed to my brother, who recently moved. I used color blocking to create the background; the focal image is the now-retired Galloping Stallion from Poppystamps. Let’s take a look!

Masculine CAS Hello - Color Blocked Die-Cut Horse

  • I used a die from a Reverse Confetti treat bag set (the rectangle is 3/4″ wide x 2 7/8″ long) to die-cut five different colors of cardstock – Taylored Expressions Toffee, Stampin’ Up Cajun Craze, TE Sweet Potato Pie, SU More Mustard, and SU Not Quite Navy. This particular treat bag is now retired, but a rectangular die will work. I wanted the colors to convey a western feel – think Pendleton blanket.
  • I attached the rectangles to a 3 3/4″ wide by 5″ wide panel.
  • I die-cut the stallion from Taylored Expressions Chocolate Truffle cardstock and attached him with foam adhesive to an oval, cut with a Spellbinders Nestabilities set from Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla and dry-embossed with the TE Weathered embossing folder.
  • I stamped the sentiment with Archival Potting Soil ink on Taylored Expressions Toffee cardstock and cut it with a TE tag die. I added May Arts twine, which ties in with the rustic theme.

Freshly Made Sketches #400

Hello! I am playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches 400th Challenge.

Freshly Made Sketches #400

I began by finding the patterned paper that I wanted to use. I still have A LOT of patterned paper. I chose Pebbles Seen & Noted. This is an older pad with great coordinating patterns and colors. I used basic shape dies to cut the three patterned paper pieces.

For the focal image, I went through my butterfly die sets and chose the Memory Box Moonlight Butterfly. I cut the body and antennae from solid papers in the Pebbles pad.

The butterfly was lost against the patterned papers, so I cut a vellum circle to quiet the pattern behind the butterfly. I adhered the butterfly to the circle with glue and the assembly to the patterned paper pieces with foam adhesive.

The sentiment – Pinkfresh Studio Word Series: Thanks – was stamped with Espresso Truffle ink. I don’t have a lot of occasion to use that ink color but I felt that stamping in black would be too harsh with the other colors.

I added three enamel dots in gold (another product of which I have a lot of inventory) in the upper-right corner.

Penny Black – Watercolored Bear Cuddle

Hello! Today I am sharing a sweet scene showcasing the Penny Black Bear Cuddle stamp and coordinating die.

I stamped the image on different papers and colored it with a variety of mediums. In the end, this one, watercolored with the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors on Arches Cold Press paper, was my favorite.

Once dry, I cut the image with the coordinating die. I’m delighted that Penny Black now has coordinating dies for many of their images!

I added Distress Oxide ink to the top of a square panel and stamped it with the sentiment from the Flower Teddy set.

Originally, I envisioned a green card base (to tie in with the cushion in the image), but I didn’t have any green cardstock in the same shade. I ended up using Lawn Fawn Paper Bag.

Simon Says Stamp – Flower Cluster Die

Hello! Today I am sharing a “just because” card featuring the Simon Says Stamp Flower Cluster die. I shared a card with this same die (also using the inlaid technique) in this post.

  • I cut the outline from black cardstock.
  • I colored white cardstock with a variety of Distress Oxide  inks. I cut the colored cardstock with the die and inlaid the pieces into the frame. I placed tape across the back of the frame to hold the pieces.
  • I stamped the Every Moment sentiment on a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel.
  • I added the assembled cluster to the sentiment panel and the panel to the card base, which I dry-embossed with a subtle texture.

Freshly Made Sketches #399 – Nautical-Themed

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS, nautical-themed card for the Freshly Made Sketches #399 Challenge.

Freshly Made Sketches #399

This was an easy sketch with which to work and my card came together quickly!

Freshly Made Sketches #399 - Nautical-Themed

  • I stamped the SU Pool Party square with a Stampin’ Up sentiment (Hello, Sailor retired set) in SU Night of Navy ink.
  • I die-cut the anchor (WPlus9 Nautical Notions) from SU Night of Navy cardstock, the crab (TE Little Bits – Crustaceans) from SU Real Red, and the rope and life ring with the Cottage Cutz Rope Corner set.
  • I added the elements to the sentiment stamped panel (using foam adhesive for the crab, life ring, and the anchor) and added the assembly to the square card base.

I’m already thinking of other ideas for this sketch!
