Pattern Play: Day 2 Revisited

I’m going back through the Online Card Class Pattern Play class lessons to make cards which I didn’t make during the week of class. Today I’m sharing a card using the emboss resist technique inspired by one of Jennifer McGuire’s cards from the Day 2 lesson.

The tricky part in crafting this card is choosing the background stamp. The Hero Arts “Leaf and Floral” pattern provides the right amount of negative space so that enough of the patterned paper still shows through. I ironed the embossing off, after I applied the distress ink, per Jennifer’s instructions in the lesson. I’ve never done this before; I really like the results! To ensure that the papers coordinated with one another, I chose all of the papers from the MME “Quilting Bee” pad.

Today I was inspired by a card shared by Jennifer Rzasa, a guest instructor in Online Card Class Pattern Play.

The flowers are fussy cut and layered with some dimensional adhesive. Let me tell you, that “Thank you” sentiment on the side took me several tries to get straight! I used my Fiskars stamp press after several failed attempts using an acrylic block.

Colorful Chevrons

As long as I had the Fiskars stamp press out to make my Inspired by…Color card, I decided I’d make another card using border stamps. As I was pondering color schemes, I came across an image in a catalog I received with coral, blue and khaki. (It happened to be an ensemble in an outdoor clothing catalog.) I knew I didn’t want to make another rainbow color scheme card, and the color combination felt fresh, but not in a traditional sense.

Hello There

Inspired by … Color!

Maybe it’s the rain, or maybe it’s because I’m ready for more color in my surroundings, whatever the reason, I’m gravitating towards cards with bright colors right now. I really liked the Pinspired Challenge #5 image. So I made another card with that colorful quilt in mind.

Inspired by ... Color!

In fact, I bought the Mama Elephant “Trifecta” stamp originally for the challenge, but then went a different direction at the last minute. To season the triangle border stamp, I inked it with Versamark each time before inking with the various dye and chalk inks. I don’t know if this gave me better coverage or not, but my experience is that Versamark “gums up” the stamp and helps ink stick to it.
