Spellbinders January 2021 Large Die Kit Club

Happy 2021! I’m delighted to be sharing two projects created with the January 2021 Large Die of the Month – “Slimline Kaleidoscope
Hearts” – at Spellbinders.

My first project is a slimline Valentine’s Day card.

  • I cut the Large Die of the Month frame from Whip Cream cardstock.
  • I used the frame to cut the smaller hearts from red paper and inlaid them into the frame. I backed the frame with Brush Gold cardstock.
  • I cut two kaleidoscope hearts from white cardstock and two shades of red, backing the assembly with a solid heart cut from dark red.
  • I heat-embossed the Sending My Love sentiment in white on red and cut it with the frame die. (The solid heart of the kaleidoscope is slightly smaller than the large heart of the frame.)
  • I adhered the sentiment heart and kaleidoscope hearts to the frame.

To illustrate the set’s versatility, I created a gift tag with the kaleidoscope heart for a Valentine’s Day treat.

  • I used the Large Die of the Month to cut the tag from Brush Gold cardstock. The left-hand side is not cut through completely, which creates a hinge.
  • I stamped the Sending My Love sentiment in gold on Whip Cream cardstock and cut it with the solid heart die, adhering it to the inside of the tag.

  • I stamped the row of ballerinas with “Hello” and  “Friend” on a Whip Cream cardstock panel.
  • I Copic-colored the ballerinas before diecutting the top of the panel with the curtain slot.
  • I cut the curtain pieces from red velvet cardstock and the rods from gold foil.
  • I added the Whip Cream panel to a Brush Gold card base and added the curtain assembly.
  • Once everything was in place, I embellished the curtains with gold sequins.

Here’s a view of the card with the curtain panels closed:

Spellbinders December 2020 Small and Large Die Kit Clubs

Hello and happy December! Today, I am sharing cards created with this month’s Small Die of the Month kit (“Daydreaming”) and Large Die of the Month kit (“Look Behind the Curtain”) at Spellbinders.

My first card showcases the Small Die of the Month kit that is packed with dies with which to create window scenes.

I cut the starry panes from dark blue cardstock and again (without the star insert) from light yellow. The set contains three sentiments. I chose the one that best works with the nighttime scene.

I added the cat, the moon, and the potted plants to the scene, as well as gold sequins. I added the window assembly to a patterned paper background.

On the second card, I have combined the Small Die of the Month kit named “Daydreaming” and Large Die of the Month, which contains dies with which to create an operable curtain. I created a daytime scene with the Small Die of the Month kit, using the rectangular window without the arch window.

Here’s the card with the curtains open:

  • I assembled the scene, which includes two cats and potted plants, and set it aside.
  • Following the directions for the curtain assembly, I die-cut the curtain pieces from patterned paper and gold foil (finials).
  • I attached the curtains to a yellow panel which contains the slots for the curtain mechanism.
  • I then added the window scene.

Here’s what the card looks like with the curtains closed:

Spellbinders June Club Kits – Another Look

Hello!  Today I am sharing two friendship cards created with the June Small Die of the Month and Large Die of the Month sets from Spellbinders. I previously shared a card featuring the Small Die of the Month here and a card featuring the Large Die of the Month here.

On the first card I used dies from both of the sets on the floral frame. I attached the assembled flowers and foliage to the frame, which is included in the Large Die set. The frame surrounds a large stamped sentiment (from a now-retired set from Simon Says Stamp).

On the second card I used dies from the Small Die of the Month exclusively, using two of the three flower shapes in the set. Once the assembled flowers were on the panel, excess stems, foliage, and bloom were trimmed from the side and the bottom. (The large sentiment is from the same now-retired set from Simon Says Stamp.)

  • I heat-embossed the sentiment on deep blue cardstock.
  • I cut the frame from gold foil.
  • I cut the greenery from SU Cucumber Crush (now retired) and vellum. I cut the flowers from yellow, red, and white, and their centers from gold foil.
  • I glued the foliage and flowers to the frame. I used flowers to cover the junction points for the foliage.
  • I glued the frame to the card base.
  • I added flat sequins in several sizes to the card to fill in the “white space.”
