Guest Designing at Lawnscaping Challenges

I’m delighted to be guest designing over at Lawnscaping Challenges today!

Lawnscaping Challenge Number 83 is all about using heat or dry embossing on your project. The prize for this challenge is a $25 gift certificate to Simon Says Stamp!

Here’s my card featuring heat embossing.

I stamped and heat embossed the Mason jar from Summertime Charm on white cardstock and on vellum. I stamped and heat embossed the lid out of gray cardstock. I used the Summertime Charm Lawn Cuts to cut out the pieces. I also stamped and heat embossed the strawberries, colored them with Copics, and then cut them with the Lawn Cuts.

I glued the vellum overlay onto the white cardstock, using the embossed line as a guide for where to put the glue. I had attached the strawberries to the white cardstock before adding the vellum, so they wouldn’t spill out! I topped off the jar with its lid and some twine. I die cut Scripty Hello from patterned paper and adhered it to my card base panel. Once I had attached the jar to the sentiment panel, I scattered a few more strawberries at the jar’s base.

Life Is Good

This week’s challenge at Stamp Nation is HOME. There are so many different directions you can go with the theme. I decided to create a card based on a fantasy of mine to live in a lighthouse (I’d settle for living on the beach)!

I stamped and heat embossed the lighthouse and sand pail from Lawn Fawn’s “Life Is Good” set. I colored the images with Distress Markers scribbled onto an acrylic stamp block, from which I picked up the color with a wet brush. Once dry, I die cut the lighthouse and pail with their matching Lawn Cuts. The sand dunes were stamped, heat embossed and watercolored.  The sand color is a combination of Brushed Corduroy and Dried Marigold. Once dry, I fussy cut the dunes. The background was watercolored with Salty Ocean.

This scene makes me happy – the sun and the ocean beckons!

OCC Stenciled: Day Two

Today’s Online Card Classes Stenciled class lesson was about using the stencil as a template.  I created a card based on the one shown by Kristina Werner.

I colored in some of the stars on the Tim Holtz stencil with Inktense pencils. I didn’t color as many as Kristina had on her card, I added sequins for some more bling. The Inktense pencils do leave some shaving residue as you color, so it’s important that you shake/blow those off as you go along. While I like this technique, and it’s a quick and easy way to craft a card, I think I’ll use this same design on a card onto which I ink the stars.

Pinspired Challenge #23

For my card, I was inspired by the color scheme of bright blue, red and white in the inspiration image, as well as the holiday theme.

I stamped Penny Black’s Crystal Pattern [40-162] background stamp with Bahama Blue ink for my background, onto which I added the die cuts. Yes, this card does look a lot like the tags I shared last week! (I actually had this card made several weeks ago for this challenge.) I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of those birch die cuts.

Today, I’m sharing a card created with one Kristina Werner’s designs from the Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop. There are still plenty of cards from class that I’d like to make!

Kristina stamped lines with pigment ink on her card. I tried this idea, but wasn’t able to stamp lines that looked sharp, so I created strips from patterned paper instead. I heat embossed green and red cardstock with Lawn Fawn stamps. The patterned paper is from one of last year’s Echo Park collections. I stamped the owl with Memento black ink and colored him (her?) with Copics. Even though I didn’t mind fussy cutting stamped images too much, I really like the Lawn Cuts companion dies!
