Bold Love – January 2020 Spellbinders Small Die of the Month

Happy New Year! Today, I am sharing two Valentine’s Day cards created with the January Small Die of the Month kit from Spellbinders – “Bold Love.”

I’ve created cards of the same design in two different color combinations to illustrate the variety obtained simply by changing colors. For example, including metallic cardstock creates a more formal card.

The red background card incorporates brushed gold letters, a white background for the letters, gold hearts, and purple flowers. The LOVE letters were added to the background assembly with foam adhesive.

The turquoise/teal background card incorporates red letters, a white background for the letters, red hearts, and yellow and blue flowers.

I’m already thinking of additional color schemes for the card. Black background? Gold background for the letters? Brushed and shiny metallic for the hearts and flowers?

Wishing you all the best in 2020!

Spellbinders Small Die of the Month Kit – Our Favorite Font Sentiment Set

Hello! Today, I am sharing two cards created with the December Small Die of the Month kit from Spellbinders – “Our Favorite Font Sentiment Set.”Spellbinders Small Die of the Month Kit - Our Favorite Font Sentiment SetThe set includes fourteen word dies, in a versatile font, with which you can create a variety of expressions for a number of occasions such as: “Thinking of You,” “With Sympathy,” “Birthday Wishes to You,” and “Congrats to You,” as well as the more obvious “Thank You,” “Love You,” and “Happy Birthday.”

My first card is a Valentine, which includes several other Spellbinders sets, on which I used the “Love You” sentiment.

I’ve combined the Tux set (he’s still wearing a scarf but I removed his ear muffs) with the First Crush die set (balloon). I created the heart panel with the largest die in the Nestabilities Class Heart set. The card measures 4 1/2″ square.

My second card is a Thank You note on which I combined the sentiment with the Butterfly Frame-A-Long die set.

I dry-embossed the background (measuring 4 1/4″ square) with the Pretty Plaid embossing folder. I created a frame by adhering the butterfly/flower strips together at the corners; I then added the flower overlays, cut from yellow cardstock. I glued pearls to the centers of the flowers for embellishment.

Spellbinders Small Die of the Month Kit – Kaleidoscope Snowflake

Hello and happy November!  It’s hard to believe we’re less than two months away from Christmas! Today, I am sharing three projects created with the November Small Die of the Month kit from Spellbinders – “Kaleidoscope Snowflake.” The dies are suitable for Christmas or the upcoming winter months.

The die set includes dies to create the large layering snowflake (which can be layered with 2 or 3 layers). Additionally there’s a set of three snowflakes which can be used separately or layered together. Let’s take a look at what I created.

My first two cards are of the same design with different colors.

  • For the layering snowflake, I cut the top and bottom layers from Whip Cream cardstock and the middle layer from shiny metallic cardstock (gold and silver).
  • I hot-foiled the Shine Bright sentiment from the Everyday Sentiments II set.
  • The 4″ square backgrounds were dry-embossed with the Pretty Plaid folder.
  • The green background was added to a 4 1/4″ square Whip Cream base. I used silver glitter cardstock for the purple background.

On my third project, I used the set’s individual snowflakes.

The sentiment was hot-foiled in Copper on to navy cardstock. The snowflakes were cut from Whip Cream cardstock and copper foil cardstock. I combined the largest and middle-sized snowflakes and used the smallest snowflake individually.

Spellbinders Small Die of the Month Kit – Home for the Holidays

Hello and happy October!  Today, I am sharing two projects created with the October Small Die of the Month kit from Spellbinders – “Home for the Holidays.” I had a lot of fun dressing my hostess for both Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Let’s start with the Thanksgiving card. I cut the hostess from a variety of solid and patterned papers. It was fun choosing her dress pattern.

I quieted the floral background patterned paper by adhering velum to it. I heat-embossed a My Favorite Things sentiment on pumpkin-colored cardstock to coordinate with the pie.

For the Christmas version, I heat-embossed a sentiment from the Merry Everything set on to a white cardstock circle that I placed behind the hostess to help her stand out on the background paper.

The hostess is holding a small Christmas tree. I added wrapped plaid packages, cut with dies in the set, around her feet as embellishment.

Spellbinders Trick-or-Treat Die-cut Scene

Hello! I am sharing a die-cut Halloween scene on which I combined several Spellbinders/FSJ die sets – “Eek-A-Boo” (this month’s Small Die of the Month), Haunted Manor, and Sweet Home Accents.

Spellbinders Trick-or-Treat Die-cut Scene

For this card, I wanted to capture a trick-or-treat scene. While there are a number of different trick-or-treaters that can be made with the “Eek-A-Boo” set, I crafted a devil. I liked the punch of red the devil provides. (See my first set of cards with the “Eek-A-Boo” set here.)

I also tucked the ghost, cut with a die in the “Eek-A-Boo” set, behind the door – the “Eek” being that it was a ghost who answered the door!

What I like about this card: the Halloween theme; the bold colors; the whimsy of it – a black cat in the window, a ghost at the door; it includes a home scene, which is one of my favorite types of scenes to make; and it’s made entirely from die-cuts.
