Paper Smooches You’re Swell

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS friendship card featuring Paper Smooches supplies. I have created similar cards in the past using a now-retired My Favorite Things die that cuts a three-circle frame.

Paper Smooches You're Swell

  • My starting point for this card was the Echo Park Dive Into Summer patterned paper.
  • I cut the three-circle frame for the underwater scenes and sentiment.
  • I combined the Paper Smooches Water Wise and Ocean Scene die sets with the Surf and Turf sentiment, choosing colors for the ocean plants and the fish to tie in with the patterned paper colors.

Freshly Made Sketches #399 – Nautical-Themed

Hello! Today I am sharing a CAS, nautical-themed card for the Freshly Made Sketches #399 Challenge.

Freshly Made Sketches #399

This was an easy sketch with which to work and my card came together quickly!

Freshly Made Sketches #399 - Nautical-Themed

  • I stamped the SU Pool Party square with a Stampin’ Up sentiment (Hello, Sailor retired set) in SU Night of Navy ink.
  • I die-cut the anchor (WPlus9 Nautical Notions) from SU Night of Navy cardstock, the crab (TE Little Bits – Crustaceans) from SU Real Red, and the rope and life ring with the Cottage Cutz Rope Corner set.
  • I added the elements to the sentiment stamped panel (using foam adhesive for the crab, life ring, and the anchor) and added the assembly to the square card base.

I’m already thinking of other ideas for this sketch!

Watercolored Aloha Newton

Hello! Today I am sharing a summer-themed card featuring one of the images from the Newton’s Nook Aloha Newton set. I have previously shared cards using this set here and here.

Watercolored Aloha Newton

  • I stamped the image with Versafine ink on Smooth Bristol and watercolored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.
  • Once the image was dry, I put masking paper over it and sponged the background with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink.
  • I cut the image with a circle die and cut another circle, from white cardstock with a slightly larger die, as a mat.
  • I stamped the sentiment and cut it with a now-retired MFT Stamps tag die.
  • I dry-embossed the kraft card base and added a panel of Carta Bella Summer Splash patterned paper to reinforce the tropical/beach theme.

Simon Says Stamp Hibiscus – Inlaid Die-Cut

Hello! Today, I am sharing a summer-themed, friendship card showcasing the Simon Says Stamp Hibiscus Frame die. I’ve previously shared cards created with this die set  here and here. This card using the inlaid technique – one of my favorites for die sets such as this.

Simon Says Stamp Hibiscus - Inlaid Die-Cut

  • I colored Canson XL watercolor paper with Peerless Watercolors in Turquoise Blue, Golden Yellow, Light Green, and Jackqueminot Red. I set the pieces aside to dry.
  • I cut the Hibiscus Frame from 80 lb. white cardstock and then cut it with the 4″ die in the Square Basics set. I did this a second time and adhered the two together to create a frame for my pieces. I adhered a square to the back to secure the pieces.
  • I cut the watercolored paper with the hibiscus die and inlaid the pieces into the frame.
  • I stamped the Gina K Key Lime cardstock with the Choose Joy sentiment and trimmed the panel to 4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. I didn’t want to crowd the hibiscus so I gave it a 1/4″ border on the top and sides.
  • I attached the hibiscus frame to the stamped cardstock. I attached the assembly to a pre-scored card base.

Spellbinders/Fun Stampers Journey – Shark Week

Hello! Suns out, fins up! Today I am sharing two summer-themed cards created with the Shark Attack stamp set. I thought these would be fun for the 31st edition Shark Week, which kicks off July 28. I previously shared a card using this stamp set in this post.

Spellbinders/Fun Stampers Journey - Shark Week

On my first card, I stamped the shark image on an ink-blended background.

Spellbinders/Fun Stampers Journey - Shark Week

  • I blended Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide inks on white cardstock.
  • I stamped the shark image on to the panel with Archival ink.
  • I heat-embossed the sentiment on to black cardstock, which I cut with a circle die.
  • I popped the sentiment on to the center of the card base with foam adhesive.

For the second card, I stamped the shark image on to a white card base with shades of blue ink.

Spellbinders/Fun Stampers Journey - Shark Week

  • I started at the top of the panel stamping with Tumbled Glass Distress ink. Without moving the stamp, I overstamped the image with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink. (Prior to stamping the background, I ran a test. I stamped the image with dye ink, dye ink and then oxide, oxide only, and oxide with dye ink over. Of those four, I like the combination of first stamping with the dye ink and then stamping with the oxide image the best.)
  • I continued down the panel using the same system with Broken China, Salty Ocean, and Blueprint Sketch.
  • I heat-embossed the sentiment on to black cardstock, which I cut with a circle die. The circle is slightly smaller than the circle on the first card.
  • I popped the sentiment on to the center of the card base with foam adhesive.
