12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist – Day 2

Have you been following the amazing tags shared in the CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson’s? It’s all part of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist series.

I’m sharing a tag inspired by Julie Ebersole’s. Her video was an absolute delight to watch – she’s funny and provides great explanations of her steps.

I made some modifications to use what I had on hand. And I learned a lot in making the tag. I made more than one mistake, but I learn the most when I make mistakes. The patterned paper is from last year’s (year before last’s?) My Mind’s Eye holiday release. One of the things I learned is that the Tim Holtz tag die is longer than a 6″ x 6″ pad, so I used 12″ x 12″ scrapbooking paper, which put some limitation into my choices.  The sky is dry embossed with one of my favorite Sizzix embossing folders.

Holiday Card Camp Day 3

The focus of today’s Online Card Classes Holiday Workshop lesson was Clean and Simple Holiday Cards. For my first card, I followed one shown by Shari Carroll.

Shari used a repeating sentiment from Lawn Fawn, which was adorable. I looked through my stash and found a sentiment from a Technique Tuesday set that would work, although it wasn’t repeating. Because of the sentiment’s length, I ended up making the card 4 1/2″ wide, to provide white space on the side and bottom. I added some “snowflakes” with embossing paste in the sky.

For the second card, I made some modifications to an idea shown by Cristina Kowalczyk. I masked off a triangular area and colored in select parts of the Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil with Copics to form a Christmas Tree. I wasn’t thrilled with the way the tree sides looked, they were raggedy, so I cut it out with the larger tree die cut from the Sizzix “Holiday Cheer” set. I silver heat embossed a sentiment from the Hero Arts “Naughty or Nice” set – really like the fonts in this set!

I used Technique Tuesday’s “Eat Chocolate” stamp set with a combination of Versamagic inks. While designing the card, I tried incorporating the sentiment on the card front but decided to stamp it inside instead.

Debby Hughes CASE

With each lesson of the Online Card Classes Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 102 class, we received a download of inspiration cards and projects based on the techniques. Today, I’m sharing a card I created based on one that Debby Hughes contributed to the class.

I replaced some of the elements on Debby’s card with supplies I owned. I die cut the leaves from Craft-a-Board and painted them, before adding the Distress Glitter, in a matching color, to a Glossy Accents coating. On the card background, I applied embossing paste through a stencil. I watched several videos on the application of the paste, and honestly, it couldn’t be easier! I used a plastic disposable knife to spread the paste through the stencil.

Swim the Sea

I’m still waxing poetic about summer as autumn approaches. While I love the colors of the fall, I like the colors of summer, too. And I’ve always liked primary colors, although I added a few fish cut from Mango cardstock, deviating from the blue/yellow/red color scheme of this card created with one of my favorite sentiments.
