Penny Black Watercolored Christmas Critter

Hello! Today I am sharing a Christmas card featuring a watercolored critter from the Penny Black stamp set #30-385 Santa’s Helpers.

  • I stamped the skating mouse on to Cold Pressed paper with Versafine ink and colored him with Gansai Tambi watercolors.
  • Once dry, I stamped a mask for the mouse and brushed Tumbled Glass Distress ink off of a masked “ice” ground.
  • I framed the image with a cardstock panel cut with the 4 1/2″ square in the #51-422 Stitched Square and Circles die set and a circle in the #51-551 Stitched Circles set, which leaves a pattern on the outside of its cut. I also added an inner mat, which was created with a plain circle die.
  • I added a die-cut sentiment, cut with one of the dies in the #51-021 Love & Joy set from gold cardstock.

Penny Black Golden Delight Fall Wreath – Two Versions

Hello! Today I am sharing two versions of a CAS fall-themed design that showcases the #30-601 Golden Delight stamp set from Penny Black’s Autumn Bliss release.

Penny Black Golden Delight Fall Wreath - Two Versions

On one card, I heat-embossed the wreath with gold powder.

On the other, I stamped with Versafine ink.

On both cards, I watercolored the leaves with Distress Inks – Peeled Paint, Rusty Hinge, and Wild Honey.

I masked the sentiment to stamp the three words separately choosing cardstock colors that coordinated with the Distress Inks I used to watercolor.

A die (#51-589 Golden Delight Cut Out) can be purchased that cuts out the wreath; for these cards, I cut the wreath with a 4″ square die and added the watercolored image to a 4 1/4″ card base. The sentiment strips were added to the center of the wreath with foam adhesive.

What I like about these cards: I like the look of watercolor and the watercoloring on this image was straightforward; I like creating different versions of the same design; even though it took a little longer, I like the idea of breaking up sentiments in the manner I did on these cards; I enjoyed tying the Distress Ink colors I used for the watercoloring with cardstock colors I used for the sentiment strips.

Gone Fishing!

Hello! Seems as if everywhere I turn, there are people fishing! Today I am sharing a watercolored Penny Black image paired with a punny sentiment created on my computer. The image is from an older (and favorite!) Penny Black stamp set – Sunny Days. Let’s take a look!

Gone Fishing!

  • I stamped the image with VersaFine ink on Cold Press watercolor paper.
  • I colored the image with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. The background was colored with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker in Light Blue.
  • I used square dies to cut a frame from the cardstock on which I printed the sentiment, as well as from TE Sweet Potato Pie cardstock for an inner mat.

Penny Black – Watercolored Bear Cuddle

Hello! Today I am sharing a sweet scene showcasing the Penny Black Bear Cuddle stamp and coordinating die.

Penny Black - Watercolored Bear Cuddle

I stamped the image on different papers and colored it with a variety of mediums. In the end, this one, watercolored with the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors on Arches Cold Press paper, was my favorite.

Once dry, I cut the image with the coordinating die. I’m delighted that Penny Black now has coordinating dies for many of their images!

I added Distress Oxide ink to the top of a square panel and stamped it with the sentiment from the Flower Teddy set.

Originally, I envisioned a green card base (to tie in with the cushion in the image), but I didn’t have any green cardstock in the same shade. I ended up using Lawn Fawn Paper Bag.

Watercolored Penny Black Floral

Hello! Today I am sharing a floral card watercolored with Zig Clean Color Brush markers.

I stamped Penny Black’s Sweet Perfume (this is an older cling stamp which appears to be retired) with Versafine ink on Canson Montval paper. I colored the image with a variety of Zig markers including Carmine, Light Carmine, Yellow, Bright Yellow, Orange, Light Green, May Green, and Persian Blue.

Once dry, I trimmed the watercolored panel to 4 1/2″ wide by 5 1/2″ tall.

I stamped and heat-embossed the sentiment from the Sentiment Collection set and cut it with the smaller tag in the 51-007 Tagged die set. I cut the tag reinforcement piece from black cardstock. I attached the tag to the background with dimensional adhesive and used twine to finish off the card.
