Taylored Expressions Inlaid Diecutting Technique Scene

Today, I’m sharing a card created with the Inlaid Diecutting Technique using Taylored Expressions products. I crafted an inlaid mountain scene.

Jean Manis Taylored Expressions Inlaid Die Cutting

The background items in the scene (those that are farthest away) are the first to be cut. To begin, I cut Salt Water Taffy cardstock with one of the dies in the Build a Scene – Mountain Tops set. I used the circle die in Build a Scene – Sunshine to cut out a sun from the sky panel. I used the same die to cut the sun out of Lemon Meringue cardstock. I placed the yellow sun into the sky panel, adhering it with Scotch tape on the back to secure it. I then cut the panel with the larger cloud die in the Cloud Duo set. I cut a cloud from Sugar Cube cardstock and put it into the sky panel. Next, I used the same Build a Scene – Mountain Tops mountain die to cut Lavender Glaze cardstock and adhered it to the sky panel.

Working my way down, I used the other die in the Build a Scene – Mountain Tops set to cut the sky/mountain panel. I also cut mountains from Jelly Donut cardstock with the same die, and taped them into the scene. The trickiest part of the scene is next. I used one of the dies in the Build a Scene – Rolling Hills set to cut the Jelly Donut cardstock mountains at their base. I also cut a strip of Cookie Monster cardstock with the same die. I cut off the bottom of the Jelly Donut cardstock mountains and the Cookie Monster cardstock to create a lake. The line of the lake becomes the horizon line, and needs to be parallel to the card base. (An easier approach would be to eliminate the lake altogether, which I considered while I was making the card! You could also use one of the dies in the Build a Scene – Rolling Waves set.)

I heat-embossed a sentiment from Critter Correspondence on Peapod cardstcock and cut it with the Build a Scene – Rolling Hills die, and then taped the mountains, lake and hill together from the back.

I used trees from the Build a Scene – Central Park and Build a Scene – Winter Trees sets to cut evergreens in the foreground.

Once all of the pieces were in place and attached together on the back, I trimmed the panel and adhered it to a cardstock base.

The Inlaid Diecutting Technique can create stunning results! It’s important to think about what pieces will be in the back and which will be in the front when planning your creation.

Taylored Expressions Share Joy Challenge #14

I’m playing along with the Taylored Expressions Share Joy Challenge #14.

My take on the challenge used the sketch:

I heat-embossed a sentiment from the In & Out Christmas set on Sweet Basil cardstock and cut it with a die in the Stitched Banner Stacklets set. I used the same die to cut a piece of patterned paper from the 6×6 Paper Pack – Build a Scene Christmas pad. I cut the Eventful – Night Before Christmas scene from Cherry Pop cardstock. I cut Sugar Cube cardstock with a die in the Stitched Rectangle Stacklets set. I covered the card base with a piece of paper from 6×6 Paper Pack – Build a Scene Christmas pad and added a rectangle cut with another patterned paper from the set. To finish, I added trees cut from Sugar Cube cardstock with dies in the Build a Scene – Central Park and Build a Scene – Winter Trees set.

Reverse Confetti December SFYTT

Have you seen this month’s Sketch for You to Try at Reverse Confetti?

I created a holiday card using the sketch as my starting point.

I cut one of the words from the Winter Words Confetti Cuts set out of gold foil paper and attached it to the circle cut from patterned paper. I heat-embossed one of the sentiments from the Winter Words Coordinates set onto the red rectangle. I embellished the card with leaves and berries cut with the Holly Confetti Cuts set.

I hope you’ll play along! Head on over to link up your card on the Reverse Confetti Blog for your chance to win a $20 Reverse Confetti gift certificate and the title of ‘Fetti Fave!

I stamped the heart images from the Heart of Hearts Stamp & Die Combo set with red ink and cut them with the corresponding die. I cut a Cookie Monster cardstock panel with the Peek-a-boo Hearts die and dry-embossed it with the Paisley embossing folder, adhering the hearts to the backside. The “xoxo” sentiment is from the Love Makes the World Go Round set. I finished the card with a heat-embossed sentiment from the Heart of Hearts Stamp & Die Combo set.

On a second card, I used the Peek-a-boo Hearts die to frame the cute animals in the Quick Critters Stamp & Die Combo set.

I cut the critters from cardstock and stamped the faces onto matching cardstock. I then cut the faces out with a 5/8″ punch and added them to the bodies with foam adhesive.

Taylored Expressions December Release Sneak Peeks Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of Taylored Expressions December Sneak Peeks! The December products will be released tomorrow – Thursday, December 10 @ 7 AM PST!

Jean Manis Taylored Expressions Dec 2015 Release

I stamped, Copic-colored and cut out the skates from the Love Makes the World Go Round stamp set adding them to a patch of ice cut with the Build a Scene – Central Park set. In order for the pond to fit inside the frame, cut with a die in the Frame in Frame Cutting Plate set, I cut it a second time by just shifting the first die cut within the die. I stamped the “xoxo” sentiment repeatedly in gray ink to surround the skaters. I finished the card with a banner from the Love & Be Mine Banners set.

My second card is a shaker card featuring the Roly Poly – Fish die set.

To create the shaker, I first made a circular frame with the Stitched Circle Stacklets set. I glued a clear plastic circle to the frame, as well as a circle cut from foam. I filled the circle with Formula for Love sequins. I die cut the pieces from the Roly Poly – Fish die set and adhered them to a circle cut with the Stitched Circle Stacklets set, which I attached to the back of the frame and enclosed sequins. The card base was dry-embossed with the Swiss Hearts folder. I added a heat-embossed sentiment from the Heart of Hearts Stamp & Die Combo set.

I also created a tag with the Roly Poly – Fish set to be added to Valentine’s Day treats – Swedish Fish and Gold Fish crackers (I couldn’t resist!).

The Roly Poly Fish water panel was attached to a circle cut with the Stitched Circle Stacklets set and dry-embossed with the On the Spot embossing folder. I attached the circle to a tag created with the Stitched Circle Stacklets set using the partial die cutting technique (leaving the top hinged). I adhered a Tag Reinforcement to the back so that the tag could easily be tied onto the treats.
