Penny Black | Watercolored Halloween Card

Hello! As we are more than halfway into the month of September, I’m excited to share a playful Halloween card featuring Penny Black supplies that showcases a watercolored cat. More adorable than scary, it’s the perfect handmade creation for cat lovers and Halloween enthusiasts alike.

    • Stamp Penny Black Bewitched image in VersaFine ink on Cold Press watercolor paper. Heat set. Color with watercolor mediums of choice. I used Distress inks. Once dry, fussy-cut image. I shared another watercolored image from the Bewitched stamp set HERE.

    • Cut a panel of Purple Mist cardstock with a square die (measuring 4 1/2″) in the Penny Black Stitched Squares & Circles set. Dry-emboss with the Encircle folder. Add to card base.
    • Cut vellum with die in the Hexagon Frames set. Add to the center of the card background.
    • Add watercolored cat and sentiment to the card with foam adhesive.
    • For leaves, color cardstock with a variety of Distress inks and cut with dies in the Pumpkin Parade and Pumpkins & Leaves sets. Tuck under other elements.

Penny Black | Watercolored Witchy Cat Card

Hello! Foggy mornings have returned here in the Pacific Northwest, bringing an eerie atmosphere that perfectly matches the Halloween mood I have on my mind. I’ve crafted a playful card to get into the spooky spirit! Featuring a whimsical cat in a witch’s hat, this card used a Penny Black stamp set brought to life with watercolors. The bold “Boo” and “Happy Haunting” sentiments complete the look. Penny Black has featured similar designs on their blog, YouTube channel, and in their Ebooks, (all valuable resources that I consult for inspiration on using Penny Black products).

    • Stamp Penny Black Bewitched in VersaFine ink on Cold Press watercolor paper. Heat set. Color with watercolor mediums of choice. I used Distress Inks. Once dry, fussy-cut image.
    • Die-cut Big Boo from black cardstock. I did so twice for additional depth.
    • Stamp Halloween Builder sentiment in black ink on white cardstock. Cut with a banner die (I used one that was part of a Spellbinders Glimmer Foil set).
    • Create card background with solid cardstock and patterned paper. I used a Spellbinders die set to cut very thin strips of black cardstock to cover the seams between the solid cardstock and patterned paper for a polished look.

Impression Obsession | Friendship in Bloom

Hello! Today, I am sharing a friendship/encouragement card that features a barrel of blooming flowers and a heartfelt sentiment, “It’s your time to bloom.” The phrase can remind a friend to seize an opportunity, embrace growth, and achieve their potential. To see more cards with the encouragement theme head HERE.

    • Embellish with die-cut bees. (I used a now retired Elizabeth Crafts set.)Impression Obsession | Friendship in Bloom

Penny Black | Blooming into a New Season

Hello! As the festivities of Christmas fade away, I find myself drawn to new cardmaking themes. I decided to revisit some Penny Black products, several of which I previously used on this card.

Penny Black | Blooming into a New Season

    • Through the circle stencil in the Background Basics set, I applied Tumbled Glass ink. I stamped the Blooming Sentiments sentiment in black ink at the top of the circle and trimmed the panel as needed. I added the sentiment panel to an A2-size card base.
    • To begin, I cut the Boots, Burst of Blooms, Daisy Delight, and butterfly (Flight of Fancy set) from Soft Finish cardstock. I colored the boots, Burst of Blooms floral sections, and butterfly with Distress Inks. I colored the stems of the flowers and the daisy centers with Copic markers. I adhered centers cut from white cardstock with the Dots die.
    • I trimmed the floral pieces and added them to the boots, taping them in place on the back of the boots.
    • I added the butterfly and filled boots to the card front with foam adhesive.

Watercolored Penny Black Santa Paws

Hello! Today, I am sharing a holiday card featuring the adorable Penny Black Santa Paws stamp watercolored on a one-layer canvas. I was drawn to the image of a dog playing Santa and his rabbit helper spreading the magic of “Ho Ho Ho.”

Watercolored Penny Black Santa Paws

  • Cut an A2-size rectangle of Light Brown Woodgrain cardstock and add to a card base.
  • Stamp the Santa Paws image with Versafine on Arches Cold Press watercolor paper and heat set. Color the image with watercoloring mediums of choice (I used Distress Ink, and Zig and Tombow markers). (Check out my “Resources for Watercoloring Stamped Images” HERE.)
  • Stamp the image on to masking paper and fussy-cut.
  • Once the watercolored image is dry, stamp the sentiment on the panel.
  • Cut a snowbank from vellum. I used a die in the Sunny Studio Nature Borders set. Cover the image with the mask. Place the vellum snowbank over the image. Tape down one of the Background Basics stencils and apply Tumbled Glass ink to the sky area.
  • Cut the watercolored and stenciled panel with the largest die in the Zig Zag Stackers set. Add to the card base. I pressed the watercolored image overnight before adding to the card base.
