Watercolored Aloha Newton

Hello! Today I am sharing a summer-themed card featuring one of the images from the Newton’s Nook Aloha Newton set. I have previously shared cards using this set here and here.

Watercolored Aloha Newton

  • I stamped the image with Versafine ink on Smooth Bristol and watercolored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.
  • Once the image was dry, I put masking paper over it and sponged the background with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink.
  • I cut the image with a circle die and cut another circle, from white cardstock with a slightly larger die, as a mat.
  • I stamped the sentiment and cut it with a now-retired MFT Stamps tag die.
  • I dry-embossed the kraft card base and added a panel of Carta Bella patterned paper to reinforce the tropical/beach theme.

Monkey Business – Die-cut “Just Because” Card

Hello! Today I am sharing a “just because” card combining monkey-themed supplies.

Monkey Business - Die-cut "Just Because" Card

  • I die-cut the Elizabeth Crafts monkey from Bazzill Chocolate Malt (face) and SU Chocolate Chip (body) and assembled him with glue. I tried a number of combinations for the face and body. If I were to die-cut the monkey again, I would consider cutting him from inked cardstock.
  • I used a circle punch to cut the mouth. I used a hexagon punch to cut the nose.
  • I stamped the Monkey Business sentiment and cut the white cardstock with a circle die.
  • I cut another circle in the same yellow as the banana for a mat.
  • I dry-embossed the card background with the Tropical Leaves stencil. Initially I tried an inked background (with the stencil) in green, but the orange worked much better with the colors used for the monkey.
  • I added the monkey and banana with foam adhesive.

Hello Sunshine – Die-cut Tropical-themed Card

Hello! Today, I am sharing a tropical-themed card created from a variety of products in my stash.

Hello Sunshine - Die-cut Tropical-themed Card

  • My starting point for the card was the Newton’s Nook Tropical Leaves stencil which I sponged with Shabby Shutters ink on Easter Grass cardstock.
  • I used the Penny Black Poinsettia die to cut the blooms from SU Melon Mambo and Bazzill Circus Peanuts. The centers were cut from Marshmallow Chick. I used the Penny Black Flower Frolic die to cut the greenery from SU Gumball Green (now retired) and attached the blooms to the greenery with foam adhesive.
  • I heat-embossed the FSJ Touch the Sky sentiment on to white cardstock which I cut with a circle die.
  • For whatever reason, I’ve been feeling the need to add sequins to my cards lately. I tried a number of different colors before choosing yellow sequins from Doodlebug.

Thanks for stopping by!

Newton’s Nook – Beach Days

We are having a record-breaking heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest. Lying in a hammock is about all I have the energy to do!

Newton's Nook - Beach Days

I stamped this adorable image from the Newton’s Nook Aloha Newton set with Versafine ink on Arches hot-press paper. I colored the image with a variety of watercolor mediums, including Distress Inks and portable palettes (no longer available). I used Taylored Expressions ink and cardstock for the Tropical Leaves stenciled background.
